Are Jobs a Low Priority?

Rudy was in usual form: The hearings on Capital Hill had him in a frenzy. "Did you see how the IRS is spending $50 million?" Rudy asked upon arriving simultaneously for our 5: a.m. workout.
I feigned ignorance. “What have those evil folks done now?” I replied.
They’re spending millions on line dancing. Haven’t you seen Fox News?”
“That’s just political nonsense. Why are you upset about the IRS spending money on line dancing?” Under my breath I mumbled, “Someone must be desperate for news.”
“You should be concerned because they are wasting your money, too.”
I was in a hurry to jump in the swimming pool, but against better judgment, decided to hear Rudy out in the event he had uncovered something of substance. “To be blunt about it, I’m more concerned about Congress not taking up a jobs bill.”
“No! This is far more important,” Rudy declared emphatically. “This could bring down the entire Obama administration. It’s all over Fox News,” he proudly proclaimed.
“Hold on. Back up. Are you saying that holding hearings over line dancing trumps a job’s bill?” I asked.
“You don’t understand. The IRS is wasting millions of our tax dollars on line dancing. What else are they and Obama wasting our money on? This is bigger than Watergate.”
To avoid blocking others to the men’s locker room, I pulled him aside. “Rudy, I know how much you despise black people, but don’t you think you’re walking off the cliff on this? Darrell Issa is twisted, and so are his priorities.”
“I don’t hate black people,” he fired back.
“Okay, you only hate black people living in the White House. Now stop and think about your argument. The hearings Issa is conducting amount to a political witch-hunt. Joe McCarty pulled the same stunt in the 1950s. The significant difference was McCarty was on a drunken bender looking for Hollywood communists.”
Rudy returned a deep-furrowed scowl. “This is not the same,” he dismissed.
“I beg to differ. Different characters, but the scenario is identical. Darrell Issa is today’s Joe McCarty reincarnate. He doesn’t give a hoot how the IRS spends money. His mission is to undermine the administration. To accomplish that, he has made IRS his cause célèbre.”
Rudy's blood pressure began rising. He was about to recap every Fox News talking point when I cut him off. "I won't get a swimming lane if we discuss this further."
You'll see. This will be bigger than Waterage!" he called out, hoping to squeeze in the last word.
I turned back, “Don’t put all your trust in Fox News talking points. A decent jobs bill is what American workers are more concerned about.” No doubt, Rudy will pursue the topic, along with Darrell Issa. Good luck with making line dancing more important than jobs.
